Comfort

For the first time, in a long time, I read the news this morning and smiled. For the first time, in a long time, I read things that gave me hope.

I was reading AOL news (because I'm on AOL lol) and read the story about the book of Psalms found in Ireland. What I found not just ironic, but rather comforting was the passage it was open to:

Psalm 83

1 O God, do not keep silent;
be not quiet, O God, be not still.
2 See how your enemies are astir,
how your foes rear their heads.
3 With cunning they conspire against your people;
they plot against those you cherish.
4 "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation,
that the name of Israel be remembered no more."
5 With one mind they plot together;
they form an alliance against you-
6 the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
of Moab and the Hagrites,
7 Gebal, [a] Ammon and Amalek,
Philistia, with the people of Tyre.
8 Even Assyria has joined them
to lend strength to the descendants of Lot.
Selah
9 Do to them as you did to Midian,
as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,
10 who perished at Endor
and became like refuse on the ground.
11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb,
all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 who said, "Let us take possession
of the pasturelands of God."
13 Make them like tumbleweed, O my God,
like chaff before the wind.
14 As fire consumes the forest
or a flame sets the mountains ablaze,
15 so pursue them with your tempest
and terrify them with your storm.
16 Cover their faces with shame
so that men will seek your name, O LORD.
17 May they ever be ashamed and dismayed;
may they perish in disgrace.
18 Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD—
that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Footnotes:
a. Psalm 83:7 That is, Byblos

I added links to places, tribes, etc so if anyone is interested they don't have to do a lot of digging. Interesting place I found for biblical places: http://www.bibleplaces.com/index.htm

Taking a look at world events, isn't it ironic that this is the passage it should be open to? Considering how the world is lately, I think it's a sign. I don't believe anything happens without a reason, a purpose. I think that maybe this is a sign of what we should or shouldn't do. I won't get into a debate about what it means, but I think it's a very uplifting thing to find.

Then I read the story about a homeless man that returned thousands of dollars in bonds to a family. He's now being met with a downpour of money, gifts and help finding a job. Gives me a lot of hope for this world. To see a selfless act, done out of pure kindness, being rewarded so highly.

Sometimes I remember how much goodness there is in this world... That maybe the world will find it's compassion again, that maybe everyone will someday realize what they're doing is only hurting each other, not helping...

Then I read about celebrity babies named Blanket, Apple, and Audio Science and I lose all hope for mankind.

LOL, Lily (your last line of this entry). Psalms is my most favorite book of the Bible, along with some other ones as well. Very comforting and full of worship and praise. The end times began when Jesus went back to heaven; and as He described them, they are like a woman in labor with labor pains starting slow and then progressing more. We are progressing, but are we in "active labor", I'm not sure. I would not mind if Jesus came back in my lifetime. I'm ready to go home.

wonderful entry as always
