I am so pissed off it's not even funny.
We just got a letter addressed to my dad. From our city.
Someone reported us for letting our dog "run free."
We have NEVER let him go without a leash. EVER. He is ALWAYS on his lead tied in the backyard or leash.
There is the RARE rare occurrence of him wiggling off his lead. In the last six months it probably happened three times, when he was left outside for a long period of time.
NOW my mom is going to have to go down to city hall and explain that he's always on his lead. If they want to come out and check, fine. Let them. He's well managed.
Then I noticed it was addressed to dad. Dad's name wasn't on Biscuit's tags. He's under my name. I was sure of it. I reached for his tags, I pulled them up-- one green tag was dangling, his rabies shot tag. Someone had taken off his ID tag. This is when my blood begins to boil.
There are only two people on this block that know my dad's name. Just two. Tom, across the street, he and his wife have two small dogs, and recently they've become really unfriendly. Strangely after finding out Biscuit is our dog.
The other is Jesse, and his grandparents. They live about four houses down from us. Jesse has always been sweet to us, very friendly. Whenever he's selling something for school, mom buys whatever we can afford. We have a good relationship with them. His grandparents however, aren't all that friendly. Not hostile, just not warm fuzzy people.
Tom and his wife treat their dogs like children. Jesse and his grandparents live next door to people with four big dogs. They don't mind them.
I'm weighing out the options here, and I have very very little doubt that Tom is the one that took his tags and reported him. It's just a deep gut feeling.
I'm trying my best not to explode, but it's really hard. Of ALL the people around here to report, my family is low low low on the list. Biscuit never barks (at least not for long), he's friendly, he's smart, and he, as I said, RARELY gets off his lead.
I'm extremely insulted.

I would confront the people you think did it in a "nice" manner and get some answers and see what their problem is. I would get one of those chips if nothing else put under your dog's skin that way as long as the pounds have the readers in your area, you can always find him.

I counsel patience - it's always the safer route, and it's easier to to do something after you've gained some distance from your immediate emotions.
